Compal Electronics chairman Rock Hsu, commenting on both Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Acer reducing their PC shipment forecasts, declined to comment on its clients, but pointed out that demand in the PC industry is still not bad and shipments of enterprise notebooks are also growing, plus demand in Europe and the US is not as bad as most of market watchers believe. He also believes that tablet PCs will bite off some market share from the entry-level notebooks, but the overall growth of the PC industry is still on good track. Hsu estimates that global tablet PC shipments will reach about 60 million units with 30-40% of the volume bitten off from traditional PCs, especially entry-level notebooks; however, since tablet PCs are still produced by notebook makers, the notebook manufacturing industry will continue to see growth.
